3 Ohayou, konnichiwa, konbanwa, mina-sama. Thank you for trying
4 out my fanfic. ^_^ This isn't my first Sailormoon fanfic, it's my
5 second. ^^; But I wrote my first one two years ago, and it wasn't
6 very good, so... ^^;;; Anyway, if nothing else it gave me some
7 experience.

9 This fanfic is based on the manga storyline and mostly takes
10 place in the future (except for this part). I've planned out four
11 parts, the other three being longer than this one, but sometimes
12 authors end up changing outlines completely, so who knows? ^_^; You
13 won't really have had to read the manga to understand this story, but
14 it does help with little tiny details (okay, some big ones, too). I
15 tried to stay as close to the storyline as possible and use the
16 correct dates, so this can be thought of fitting very nicely into the
17 story.

19 I say that, but there's one point which I'd like to make
20 clear. As you read farther into this story you might say, "That would
21 *never* happen! There's no evidence for that!" Well, you'd be right,
22 sort of. There is some very subtle evidence in the manga, especially
23 in the artbooks. Not enough to definitely say it's true, mind you,
24 but enough to create a fanfic around it. ^_^; Isn't that what fanfics
25 are for? To explore possibilities? :)

27 By now I'm sure you're all going "Huh? What is she talking
28 about?" Well, you'll find out in later chapters. I didn't want to
29 spoil it for you here. ^^;

31 I'm tending to use a fair amount of Japanese in this fanfic,
32 just because I imagine them speaking totally in Japanese with
33 subtitles in my mind. ^^; Most of it's fairly straight forward, and
34 you should be able to tell what's going on even if you don't know any
35 Japanese at all.

37 I'm rating this fanfic R. Not all of it is worth an "R"
38 rating (this part, for example, is at most PG), but some of it is.
39 It's mostly because of the sexual scenes and situations that will
40 happen later on. It's not a hentai fic, though (not that I have
41 anything against hentai fics ^=^;). No one really pays attention to
42 ratings anyway, do they?

66 The mid-summer sun was just starting to set over the rolling
67 hills of the Japanese countryside. If one listened closely, one could
68 hear the faint cry of seagulls a few kilometres to the east, where the
69 Pacific Ocean stood. The wind was ever so gentle as it washed the
70 cresting waves ashore.

72 One would never guess that a site as peaceful as this would
73 even exist five months after the fierce battle in the river delta of
74 Tokyo occurred. The Silence had fallen upon the Earth, but thanks to
75 the ever-shinning light of the Messiah, she rose to resurrect the
76 souls and structures which inhabited the blue-green sphere.

78 Out of this a child was born, or rather reincarnated. With it
79 came hope for a bright future and happiness for everyone. No one
80 would have recognised this child if they saw it today. Instead of a
81 five-month-old baby, the body of a five-year-old stood in its place.

88 The woman with long aqua green hair giggled a little bit. She
89 had a caring smile on her face and looked lovingly at the black haired
90 child. "I wonder what made you ask that, Hotaru-chan."

92 "Nothing, really... I was just wondering." Hotaru looked at
93 her inquisitively.

95 The graceful woman sighed, still smiling. "Well, love is the
96 most powerful force in the world. It can heal all wounds and brings
97 joy and happiness to everyone." Hotaru looked at her mesmerised, and
98 pleaded with her eyes to be told more. "There are lots of different
99 kinds of love, each one of them wonderful. For example, Haruka-papa,
100 Setsuna-mama, and I love you very much. You're our very precious
101 daughter."

103 Hotaru smiled happily at this and replied, "Hai! I love you
104 all, too!"

106 Michiru continued, "And then there's the type of love you feel
107 for a friend, such as myself with Setsuna." Hotaru just gave a
108 knowing nod. "And then... At one point in your life you'll meet one
109 person whom you want to spend the rest of your life with. This
110 person, you will realise, is the other half of you and part of your
111 soul. You'll become unable to think of being with anyone else. This
112 person will fill your thoughts and your heart. Together, you will
113 make a complete package."

115 "Like you and Haruka-papa, ne!" said the child happily.

117 Michiru just smiled. "I think it's time for little girls to
118 get to sleep."

122 "Sa, turn off your lamp." The little girl complied, which
123 left the volume of Yeats' poems in shadow. Thus far, she had
124 memorised about half the book. In actuality, the room was full of
125 ornately decorated lamps, but the one by the bed was the only light
126 source for the room at that time.

128 Michiru bent over and kissed Hotaru goodnight. "Oyasumi

133 Michiru shut the bedroom door still with the loving smile on

138 The bell struck 3:25 at Juuban Elementary School. A rush of
139 students started to run towards the shoe lockers. A girl with pink
140 hair walked over to a desk at the opposite end of class 6-B. Her oval
141 shaped odango had a more than passing resemblance to a certain animal.

143 "Ho * ta * ru * chan!" she said teasingly. "Kaeru yo."

145 "Hai, Chibiusa-chan! Ne, why don't we stop at Fruit Parlor

150 The two girls walked hand-in-hand out of the school and along
151 the streets of Juuban. They idly chatted about the on-again
152 off-again relationship between Kyuusuke and Momoko. Before long they
153 were sitting at a booth in the soda shoppe giving their orders to

156 "Chibiusa-chan, we'll always be friends, right?"

158 This made the pink haired girl look up from her strawberry
159 milkshake. She put on the biggest smile and said, "Un! Forever and
160 ever!"

162 But the cheery exterior didn't fool Hotaru. "Then if you're
163 my friend, why are you leaving?" There were almost tears in her eyes.

165 Chibiusa's smile faded away. "Gomen ne. But I have to go
166 home. This isn't my time, and I have to tell mama all that's happened."

168 Hotaru looked dreadfully disappointed. She didn't like the
169 thought of losing her best friend for any reason. "But...when you go
170 back, I'll be there, right? The older me, I mean."

172 At this Chibiusa could barely hold back her tears. She wasn't
173 allowed to tell anybody that she had never seen Uranus, Neptune, or
174 Saturn in Crystal Tokyo. She had sworn Pluto. She never really
175 understood why, and no one would tell her. But to make her friend
176 happy, a little white lie couldn't hurt. "Of course you'll be there!"
177 she tried to say as cheerfully as she could. Anything for friendship.

179 Suddenly Hotaru got very serious. "We have to make a pact."

181 "Nani?" asked Chibiusa.

183 "A pact. We have to promise we'll always be together no
184 matter what. Friends forever."

186 Chibiusa smiled. She liked the idea a lot, so at the joining
187 of their two pinkie fingers, their pact was sealed. "Forever."

191 Hotaru was lying face down on her bedding crying more than she
192 had ever cried in her life. The past few days had not been easy for
193 her. It had come the time to see Chibiusa off to the future, and she
194 didn't like it one bit. In her mind's eye she could still see herself
195 hugging the pink haired girl, tears streaming down her face. Chibiusa
196 wasn't any less emotional. But it was time for her to go. Everyone
197 said their goodbyes; Usagi was taking it pretty hard herself. Finally
198 the pink beam of light carried Chibiusa up to the sky and then faded
199 out.

201 Hotaru had been a complete wreck afterwards. She didn't even
202 go to school the next day. Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna were worried
203 about her, but knew she needed at least some time to herself.

205 Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Hotaru, may I come
206 in?" asked the slightly low voice.

208 "Hai," answered a weak voice.

210 The tall woman came into the dimly lit room and sat on the
211 bed. She started to stroke the crying girl's hair. "Shhh... It's
212 all right." Hotaru looked up at Haruka and flung herself into her arms.

214 "Oh, Haruka-papa! I miss her so much! I miss her so much!"

216 "I know, I know," she said in a calming tone. "We all miss
217 her, but I don't think we can even begin to imagine what you're
218 feeling. You just have to believe in your friendship."

226 Hotaru stopped her crying. She remembered their pact. "Sou

228 believe we'll meet again, Chibiusa-chan."
