5 Chapter Eight- Hope of Ra
rlm@2
6
rlm@2
7 Two days had gone by with no sign of the Priest. The city was very
rlm@2
8 lively after the rain had come: the market was full of people and you
rlm@2
9 could see fishing bouts out on the great river. Sanura was staring
rlm@2
10 out of her bedroom window, smiling at the people below her.
rlm@2
11 "Why do I get this feeling that he's not coming back for a long
rlm@2
12 time?" she asked herself, somewhat relieved that the Priest was
rlm@2
13 finally gone.
rlm@2
14 The door to her room opened: she turned and saw Layla caring a try
rlm@2
15 of food. Layla put the food on the table next to the bed then turned
rlm@2
16 and wait for orders. The Priestess just smiled at her in return.
rlm@2
17 "Layla, why don't you sit down? I'm not going to give you any orders."
rlm@2
18 Layla bowed and sat on a chair next to the door then waited for
rlm@2
19 something to do for the Priestess. Sanura walked over to her desk,
rlm@2
20 sat down and started to write on some scrolls. Ra's Phoenix flew in
rlm@2
21 through the window and landed on Layla's lap.
rlm@2
22 "Well hello there," replied Layla as she smiled at the animal that
rlm@2
23 saved her life.
rlm@2
24 The three set in peaceful silence. You could hear the people talking
rlm@2
25 out side.
rlm@2
26 After a while the phoenix looked up at Layla.
rlm@2
27 "Why don't you tell her how you feel?" the phoenix mentally asked her.
rlm@2
28 Layla looked down at the bird and smiled a little,"I don't think
rlm@2
29 that's a good idea; she's a Priestess and I'm just a low class
rlm@2
30 worker."
rlm@2
31 "I have a feeling that it won't matter to her; I believe she feels
rlm@2
32 that same."
rlm@2
33 Layla looked up at Sanura and then back to the bird in her lap.
rlm@2
34 "Maybe, butr right now I'm happy to be with her this way."
rlm@2
35 The firebird just nodded its head and looked over to the Priestess.
rlm@2
36 Sanura felt that someone was watching her: she turned her head a
rlm@2
37 little to see Layla looking at her and Ra's pet sitting on her lap.
rlm@2
38 Her heart was betting very fast when she looked into Layla's eyes.
rlm@2
39 Layla saw that the Priestess was looking at her and a blush rose in
rlm@2
40 her cheeks.
rlm@2
41 "Do you need something, Priestess Sanura?" she asked, hoping that
rlm@2
42 she could do something for her.
rlm@2
43 The Priestess smiled and thought about it but nothing came to mind.
rlm@2
44 She put down what she was writing then got up and walked over to
rlm@2
45 Layla.
rlm@2
46 "Layla, could I ask you why you're by my side?" she asked kindly as
rlm@2
47 she sat down on the bed facing her.
rlm@2
48 Layla didn't know what to make of this; part of her was scared, but
rlm@2
49 the other part of her always wanted to be with the Priestess. Tears
rlm@2
50 began to fill her eyes and her face contorted into a mask of pain.
rlm@2
51 "I'm sorry Priestess, I just… I just…" she couldn't keep from crying.
rlm@2
52 Sanura turned to her, a sad yet understanding smile on her face.
rlm@2
53 The next thing they knew, a beautiful song had filled the air. The
rlm@2
54 women looked down and saw Ra's pet on the floor singing to them. The
rlm@2
55 Phoenix wonderous song made the whole kingdom feel at peace. The
rlm@2
56 people in the market stopped what they were doing and instead began
rlm@2
57 to look for where the song was coming from. The birdsong was silenced
rlm@2
58 as quickly and mysteriously as it had begun. In the Priestess' room
rlm@2
59 two young ladies were looking at one and other. Their eyes were
rlm@2
60 looking deep into each other's, and neither one of them knew what to
rlm@2
61 do: one part of them wanted to run to each other arms and never
rlm@2
62 leave… but then there was the other part, the part that was scared of
rlm@2
63 being faced with rejection.
rlm@2
64 As the two stared at one another, the firebird just kept looking
rlm@2
65 back and forth: it couldn't take it anyone. The next thing the two
rlm@2
66 women heard in their minds was laugher. They looked down at the bird
rlm@2
67 and saw it on the floor, laughing in amusment at something that
rlm@2
68 seemed to have escaped them both.
rlm@2
69 "What are you laughing about?" Sanura asked.
rlm@2
70 The Phoenix got back on its feet, flew onto the bed with them and
rlm@2
71 then spoke.
rlm@2
72 "Humans are so amusing, especially when two of them have feelings
rlm@2
73 for each other, and neither has any idea what to do about"
rlm@2
74 "What?" both women spoke at the same time, shocked by the Phoenix's
rlm@2
75 revealtion.
rlm@2
76 They looked at one another, started to blush and turned away from
rlm@2
77 each other. Ra's pet phoenix laughed and flew out of the window in
rlm@2
78 order to find her human and her human's lover.
rlm@2
79 After a while, the Phoenix heard its master calling: it began to fly
rlm@2
80 to Ra's Temple, taking a shortcut through Sanura's room, where the
rlm@2
81 two women were still not looking at one another. Finally Layla looked
rlm@2
82 over to the other girl and saw that she was looking out of the
rlm@2
83 window. Layla got up then walked over and sat down next to the
rlm@2
84 Priestess, who turned and looked at her.
rlm@2
85 Sanura was in deep thought when she felt something on the bed with
rlm@2
86 her. She turned her head and saw the very person she had been
rlm@2
87 thinking about. She smiled at Layla, who smiled back in return.
rlm@2
88 Layla was about to say something, but Sanura never give her a chance
rlm@2
89 to, as she quickly kissed her. Layla was very shocked, never having
rlm@2
90 expected that to really happen, but the shock soon wore off and she
rlm@2
91 kissed the Priestess back.
rlm@2
92 *
rlm@2
93 The Phoenix fleq into the temple and landed on the floor next the
rlm@2
94 eye of Ra. The eye started to glow and with a giant flash of light
rlm@2
95 the firebird disappears. Ra was sitting on his throne with his wife
rlm@2
96 next to him. Then a white flash of light appeared and his pet flew
rlm@2
97 into the room and then landed on his shoulder.
rlm@2
98 "You need to speak to me, my lord?" the Phoenix asked.
rlm@2
99 "Thank you for coming; I know that you wanted to be with your human,
rlm@2
100 but I have information about the Priest."
rlm@2
101 His pet just nodded to show that she understood what he was saying.
rlm@2
102 "It seems that he used a dark spell to put his soul into a black
rlm@2
103 crystal, and sent it somewhere out of my land."
rlm@2
104 "What about Anubis, doesn't he know were it is?" asked his pet.
rlm@2
105 "It would seem that Anubis knew what he was doing, but he will not
rlm@2
106 give any information," Ra's wife sighed.
rlm@2
107 The Phoenix just turns its head to her and bows.
rlm@2
108 "So what do we do? If it was a spell and his soul is in a crystal
rlm@2
109 it's only a matter of time before he comes back to life."
rlm@2
110 "That may be true true, but I have a plan," Ra looked at his pet and
rlm@2
111 his wife and smiled.
rlm@2
112 "To make sure that the people of the time have the power to stop
rlm@2
113 him, we will be sending you and those two swords."
rlm@2
114 Selkhet thought this through and looked back at her husband.
rlm@2
115 "I think it would be a good idea if we left a little bit of your
rlm@2
116 soul behind to help as well," she spoke up.
rlm@2
117 "What do you have in mind, my dear?" Ra asked.
rlm@2
118 "Well, I get this feeling that these girls have had more than one
rlm@2
119 life together: if that's true then I would say that if we left some
rlm@2
120 information down on earth them it could help them."
rlm@2
121 Ra thought about it and then it came to him.
rlm@2
122 "How about this? We leave a little bit of ourselves in a animal and
rlm@2
123 that animal would watch over the person."
rlm@2
124 "That's a great idea," replied his wife.
rlm@2
125 "What do you think, my pet?" Ra asked the phoenix.
rlm@2
126 "That will work: I will be off now and get those swords," she told
rlm@2
127 them and with a flash of light she was gone
rlm@2
128 Ra and Selkhet looked at one and other and smiled, then began to
rlm@2
129 think about what animal they would use.
rlm@2

130 *
rlm@2
131 Back on Earth, Ramla was looking around for Nakia. After a while she
rlm@2
132 found standing on one of the many balconies that overlooked the
rlm@2
133 kingdom.
rlm@2
134 "So this is where you have been hiding?" she laughed slightly as she
rlm@2
135 spoke to her newfound lover.
rlm@2
136 Nakia turned her head a little to see her princess looking at her
rlm@2
137 with a loving smile. She was wearing one of her princess dress with a
rlm@2
138 small crown with the symbols of Ra on it.
rlm@2
139 She turned to the princess and bowed.
rlm@2
140 " And why have you been looking for me, princess?" she asked, a hint
rlm@2
141 of playfulness in her voice.
rlm@2
142 Ramla giggled, "Well I woke up from my nap and couldn't find you,
rlm@2
143 when I could have sworn that you were sleeping with me."
rlm@2
144 Nakia blushed when she caught the double meaning in the princess'
rlm@2
145 words.
rlm@2
146 Ramla walked over to Nakia and kissed her. The kiss lasted a while,
rlm@2
147 and when they broke apart the saw a beautiful bird fly up to them.
rlm@2
148 They knew who it was- Ra's pet Phoenix.
rlm@2
149 The firebird landed on the railing and bowed to her human and her
rlm@2
150 human's lover. She then told them what their plan is now that they
rlm@2
151 must deal once again with the priest. The two smiled and nodded. They
rlm@2
152 then summoned their swords and handed them over to the bird. She
rlm@2
153 thanked them and flew off into the sun. Nakia and Ramla smiled at one
rlm@2
154 another and walked back into the Palace, thankful for this peace,
rlm@2
155 even if it was destined only to last a short time.
rlm@2
156
rlm@2
