1 The opening and certain segments are from a CCS radio drama. I need
rlm@2
2 to listen to it again one of these days simply because I adore Junko
rlm@2
3 Iwao’s voice. ^=^ Anyway, this is a Valentine’s Day story that came
rlm@2
4 from me jotting down little segments at a time in a notebook. If you
rlm@2
5 have any comments, I would absolutely love to hear them. ^-^

13 ‘Today is Valentine's day. It is the day to give chocolates to the
rlm@2
14 one you love. The one I love the most, the person the most important
rlm@2
15 to me... because I love her, I just want to see her smile. Even if
rlm@2
16 she would be happier being with somebody else, I would be happy just
rlm@2
17 to see it. So, the chocolates I'm offering are not to say "I love
rlm@2
18 you", but to say "I want to make you happy". Today is the day to
rlm@2
19 share what is inside your heart.’
rlm@2
20
rlm@2
21 Sakura sighed miserably as she walked out of class. Valentine’s Day
rlm@2
22 was turning out to be rather depressing for her. It was doing an
rlm@2
23 excellent job of reminding her of how alone she was. All the other
rlm@2
24 girls were busy giving sweets to the ones they loved. Chiharu had
rlm@2
25 given some chocolates to Yamazaki (before hitting him when he
rlm@2
26 explained where chocolates came from), Rika had given hers to Terrada-
rlm@2
27 sensei, and even Naoko seemed to be waiting to give her chocolates to
rlm@2
28 someone special. But poor Sakura had no one to give chocolates to.
rlm@2
29 Syaoran had broken up with her a while back and Yukito was dating her
rlm@2
30 brother. She had thought that she had gotten over the two of them for
rlm@2
31 the most part, but seeing everyone so happy to give away their heart
rlm@2
32 was making her feel terribly lonely. She just wanted to day to end so
rlm@2
33 she could forget about it all.
rlm@2
34 “Sakura-chan!” a melodious voice called out as Tomoyo swiftly
rlm@2
35 joined her dejected friend. “I saw you leaving from the music room
rlm@2
36 window, looking like a sad and lonely Sakura-chan. I didn’t want you
rlm@2
37 to have to go home alone like that, so I got out of choir early
rlm@2
38 today,” Tomoyo explained as she fell into step beside her magical
rlm@2
39 best friend. “You should never have to be sad or lonely. Your
rlm@2
40 beautiful face looks so much more stunning with a brilliant smile
rlm@2
41 attached.”
rlm@2
42 Smiling a bit at Tomoyo’s words, Sakura nodded. “Un! Thank you,
rlm@2
43 Tomoyo-chan. I’ll try to smile more today. I got so caught up in
rlm@2
44 watching everyone else giving their chocolates to the ones they love
rlm@2
45 that I started to feel lonely. But I wasn’t looking at it the right
rlm@2
46 way. I still have Tomoyo-chan, so I can’t feel lonely, even if I
rlm@2
47 don’t have anyone to give chocolates to.” She was already feeling
rlm@2
48 better with Tomoyo next to her. The pale girl always had that affect
rlm@2
49 on her, both soothing and warm. That she would skip choir practice
rlm@2
50 simply to walk her home because she looked sad was a testament to how
rlm@2
51 lucky she was to have such a kind friend. She still felt a little sad
rlm@2
52 that she had no one this Valentine’s Day, but the feeling wasn’t as
rlm@2
53 strong now that Tomoyo was with her. “Oh, while were on the subject,
rlm@2
54 who did you give your Valentine’s Day chocolates to?” Sakura asked
rlm@2
55 curiously. Now that she thought about it, she had never seen Tomoyo
rlm@2
56 with a crush on anyone before, had never heard her talking about any
rlm@2
57 boy that she liked. Which was strange because she had heard that
rlm@2
58 quite a bit lately from most of the other girls she knew. But then
rlm@2
59 again, Tomoyo was rather... eccentric. So even if it was unusual, it
rlm@2
60 wasn’t entirely out of place. Maybe her best friend was simply too
rlm@2
61 busy with other things. Like choir and Sakura herself. But Sakura was
rlm@2
62 still very curious about who Tomoyo would give her chocolates to.
rlm@2
63 Perhaps her mysterious special someone that Tomoyo had mentioned
rlm@2
64 before? She had no idea who they were, but she was sure that whoever
rlm@2
65 they were must be very lucky to have Tomoyo’s gentle heart.
rlm@2
66 “Actually, I was planning on giving them now,” Tomoyo replied,
rlm@2
67 smiling sweetly. She dug in her bookbag for a second and produced two
rlm@2
68 objects. She held a small package tied with a pink ribbon and a small
rlm@2
69 silk cloth tied like a bag with a rose red ribbon. “Here you go!”
rlm@2
70 Sakura blinked in surprise as she took the small bag of homemade
rlm@2
71 chocolate and the videotape shaped present, looking from one to the
rlm@2
72 other in her hands. “Tomoyo-chan...? Is this all for me? You really
rlm@2
73 shouldn’t have. You should give this to the one you love.”
rlm@2
74 “And that is why I am giving them to you, Sakura-chan! I want to
rlm@2
75 give Sakura-chan my heart for Valentine’s Day. It may not be much,
rlm@2
76 but it’s all yours,” Tomoyo said, tilting her head to the side as she
rlm@2
77 smiled. Dark hair fell past her eyes, but she quickly brushed it
rlm@2
78 away. She had stayed up late the night before editing the videotape
rlm@2
79 in Sakura’s hand. She knew how lonely Sakura had felt since her
rlm@2
80 breakup with Syaoran and had made the video as a way to show Sakura
rlm@2
81 how loved she was. It was a gift that she hoped would soothe Sakura’s
rlm@2
82 lost heart. It had taken her over a week to sort through all of her
rlm@2
83 videos and edit in all of the scenes she wanted onto the tape, but it
rlm@2
84 had been a job she had thoroughly enjoyed. Besides being able to look
rlm@2
85 back through her many images of Sakura, she had been overjoyed at the
rlm@2
86 prospect of finding the most romantic scenes of the Cardmistress, as
rlm@2
87 well as the best scenes that showcased how important she was to
rlm@2
88 everyone, especially Tomoyo. She had made the chocolate herself,
rlm@2
89 spending extra care to make sure they came out perfectly. Her mother
rlm@2
90 had enjoyed the Dutch chocolate when she had offered her a piece, so
rlm@2
91 she hoped Sakura would like them. The bag that carried them was a
rlm@2
92 beautifully embroidered kerchief and the ribbon was also a bow for
rlm@2
93 Sakura’s hair. It had been difficult to sit through the school day
rlm@2
94 with her precious gifts, waiting for the perfect time to give them to
rlm@2
95 her fair mistress.
rlm@2
96 Sakura blushed deeply at Tomoyo’s words. She hadn’t expected
rlm@2
97 receiving any chocolates on Valentine’s Day. That was a day for girls
rlm@2
98 to give chocolates to the ones they loved. White Day was when boys
rlm@2
99 did the same. So this came as a complete surprise to her. Candy,
rlm@2
100 gifts, and warm declarations of love. Had Tomoyo been a boy, Sakura
rlm@2
101 would have been certain that Tomoyo was confessing her love this
rlm@2
102 Valentine’s Day. That made Sakura blush deeper as she watched her
rlm@2
103 smiling best friend. Tomoyo was so sweet and gentle and oh so caring.
rlm@2
104 She was always there for Sakura, even now. She always managed to find
rlm@2
105 a way to warm Sakura’s heart, to calm her fragile emotions. If Tomoyo
rlm@2
106 were a boy, if she did love her that way... But try as she might, she
rlm@2
107 couldn’t visualize Tomoyo as a boy. It felt somehow wrong anyway.
rlm@2
108 Tomoyo was Tomoyo. A gorgeous, talented, and loving girl. But Sakura
rlm@2
109 couldn’t completely shake her thoughts of what might have been, even
rlm@2
110 if she couldn’t see Tomoyo as male. Between all of that and how
rlm@2
111 cutely romantic Tomoyo was being, she would have thrown herself into
rlm@2
112 her arms. So Sakura did it anyway. “Oh, Tomoyo-chan!” Her arms
rlm@2
113 wrapped around the pale girl’s slender waist, hugging her tightly.
rlm@2
114 Tomoyo seemed a little surprised by her sudden movement, but quickly
rlm@2
115 relaxed into the hug, her gentle hands sliding up and down Sakura’s
rlm@2
116 back as she returned the hug. Sakura’s earlier anguish about the day
rlm@2
117 felt very far away now, as if it had happened to some other girl
rlm@2
118 entirely. She had received chocolates from a very special person,
rlm@2
119 even if she hadn’t been able to give any, so maybe it wasn’t such a
rlm@2
120 bad thing after all. Sakura giggled, her emerald eyes smiling into
rlm@2
121 the vast stormy blue ocean of Tomoyo’s eyes. “I got chocolates from
rlm@2
122 the cutest girl in school. All of the boys are going to get jealous,
rlm@2
123 Tomoyo-chan.”
rlm@2
124 Tomoyo smiled happily, her fingers still trailing up and down
rlm@2
125 Sakura’s back through her school uniform. “The boys must already be
rlm@2
126 getting jealous just to see Sakura-chan giving out one of her
rlm@2
127 wonderful hugs like this. I’m very glad that you like them, Sakura-
rlm@2
128 chan. I made them just for you.” She was so happy to see Sakura
rlm@2
129 smiling so brightly, to feel her so close, to be able to gaze into
rlm@2
130 those jade plates. Her heart beat maddeningly. Its thunderous beats
rlm@2
131 were the music that symbolized her love for the brunette. “Sakura-
rlm@2
132 chan is like the goddess Aphrodite on Valentine’s Day, capturing
rlm@2
133 everyone’s heart with her beauty and grace. I had to get you my
rlm@2
134 Valentine’s Day chocolate before you got drowned in chocolates from
rlm@2
135 others.” Tomoyo smiled her trademark smile. It made perfect sense to
rlm@2
136 her that people would be lining up to give Sakura chocolates. The
rlm@2
137 brunette was just too cute, too enticing not to.
rlm@2
138 “Tomoyo-chan...” Sakura blushed deeper, sweatdropping. Tomoyo
rlm@2
139 always said the strangest things, albeit the sweetest. “Maybe on
rlm@2
140 White Day, but I really don’t think so,” Sakura said quickly,
rlm@2
141 disentangling herself from the warm embrace and walking along with
rlm@2
142 her best friend once more.
rlm@2
143 Tomoyo continued on calmly, still smiling at the Cardmistress.
rlm@2
144 “Then I’m surprised that more girls didn’t give you chocolates. Even
rlm@2
145 if Sakura-chan’s a girl, it’s easy to see just how amazing she is.
rlm@2
146 Watching her day in and day out, it’s impossible not to feel your
rlm@2
147 heart race when she is around. I know okaa-sama would love to give
rlm@2
148 you chocolates if she had the chance.” Her eyes followed Sakura’s
rlm@2
149 every movement, even though they were half lidded. It was easy to get
rlm@2
150 lost in the combination of a romantic Valentine’s Day and the
rlm@2
151 powerful allure that Sakura held. She just wanted to reach out and
rlm@2
152 hug the brunette again, to bask in that warm feeling once more.
rlm@2
153 Blushing a deep shade of scarlet, Sakura placed a hand behind her
rlm@2
154 head as the two left the school far behind. She knew that she should
rlm@2
155 be used to the strange things that Tomoyo said by now, but the dark
rlm@2
156 haired heiress still managed to surprise her. She idly wondered if
rlm@2
157 she would be more surprised if Tomoyo hadn’t said something strange.
rlm@2
158 “Are you sure, Tomoyo-can? Shouldn’t you give them to a boy you
rlm@2
159 like?” she asked, holding the small bag and package to her chest. Her
rlm@2
160 mind quickly reasoned that she hoped that wasn’t the case. It may be
rlm@2
161 embarrassing when Tomoyo said and did such things, but she always
rlm@2
162 loved the attention and warmth that Tomoyo paid her. Those feelings
rlm@2
163 always gushed forth from the pale girl in a tsunami that left Sakura
rlm@2
164 pleasantly confused and more often than not with a blush coloring her
rlm@2
165 cheeks. She didn’t want some boy taking that away from her, taking
rlm@2
166 her place at the center of Tomoyo’s attention. It may have been
rlm@2
167 selfish, but she couldn’t help it. It was just too wonderful a
rlm@2
168 feeling, to be the focus of such a devoted girl.
rlm@2
169 Tomoyo nodded assuredly. “I gave it to Sakura-chan because I like
rlm@2
170 her. There’s no one else that I would rather give my heart to on
rlm@2
171 Valentine’s Day.” She titled her head to the side thoughtfully for a
rlm@2
172 moment before continuing. “Or any other day, for that matter.” She
rlm@2
173 glanced back to Sakura, delighting in the cute blush that spread
rlm@2
174 across Sakura’s soft cheeks. Wave after wave of adoration washed
rlm@2
175 through her as they walked together under the shadow of some tall
rlm@2
176 trees. She could practically see the pink ribbons of love that Sakura
rlm@2
177 held, reaching out from her hands and wrapping tightly around
rlm@2
178 Tomoyo’s heart, binding her more strongly than any spell. She was
rlm@2
179 like a marionette, dancing to the rhythm of her love for Sakura. And
rlm@2
180 Tomoyo wouldn’t have it any other way. She took Sakura’s free hand
rlm@2
181 with her own, entwining her fingers with Sakura’s. A delicious
rlm@2
182 ecstasy filled her as she felt Sakura squeeze her hand. “Sakura-
rlm@2
183 chan... Tomoyo whispered softly as the pair came to a halt.
rlm@2
184 Gently placing a sakura blossom that had been falling down to earth
rlm@2
185 behind Sakura’s ear, Tomoyo’s fingers lingered in the Cardmistress’s
rlm@2
186 soft, short hair, trailing through the beautiful strands. Her eyes
rlm@2
187 were set on Sakura’s pretty face, the blush having faded shortly
rlm@2
188 before. Sakura was growing into a captivating young woman and she had
rlm@2
189 only managed to take an even greater hold on Tomoyo’s heart as time
rlm@2
190 went by. The two stood in silence, a light breeze jostling through
rlm@2
191 hair and fabric alike. At that moment, it felt like they were far
rlm@2
192 away from the distant land of Tomoeda, in a place that welcomed only
rlm@2
193 the two school girls. Tomoyo watched Sakura lovingly, her eyes never
rlm@2
194 leaving Sakura’s beautiful face.
rlm@2
195 Sakura closed her emerald eyes, silently waiting. Her lips pressed
rlm@2
196 together as she stood there, the breeze lightly toying with her hair,
rlm@2
197 though not so much as Tomoyo’s fingers were. Her heart was a raging
rlm@2
198 cacaphony in her heart, the only other sounds the soft breeze and the
rlm@2
199 rustling fabric of her skirt. She waited patiently, wondering
rlm@2
200 excitedly about what would happen, about where this would lead. She
rlm@2
201 felt intoxicated from the love pouring out of Tomoyo, unable to think
rlm@2
202 clearly. She only knew that if she waited... A soft, warm feeling
rlm@2
203 encompassed her lips, turning her heart upside down. Tomoyo’s lips
rlm@2
204 brushed lightly against her own, tentatively at first before she
rlm@2
205 kissed her fully. Sakura felt the anxiety that had filled her as she
rlm@2
206 had waited drain out of her, replaced instantly by the longing that
rlm@2
207 gripped her heart, by the sea of emotions that filled her as they
rlm@2
208 kissed. She hadn’t known quite what she expected, only that she had
rlm@2
209 expected something. But now that Tomoyo was kissing her, it felt
rlm@2
210 completely right, as if this was what she had been waiting for the
rlm@2
211 entire time. For her entire life. Tomoyo’s gentle lips sealed with a
rlm@2
212 kiss Sakura’s final Valentine’s Day present.
rlm@2
213 Tomoyo hadn’t known what to do at first when presented with the
rlm@2
214 patiently waiting Sakura in the small sanctuary they found themselves
rlm@2
215 in. Her mind had curiously pondered why Sakura would wait like that,
rlm@2
216 her eyes closed almost dreamily. But her mind kept returning to the
rlm@2
217 same answer. And standing there with Sakura in the gentle breeze,
rlm@2
218 watching her as they stood alone and yet together, Tomoyo had known
rlm@2
219 where her heart was leading. And she thought that Sakura’s was
rlm@2
220 already there waiting for her. Kissing Sakura softly, she was
rlm@2
221 overcome by the emotions that coursed through her. What had been a
rlm@2
222 small trickle before, a tiny stream, was now a raging river. It
rlm@2
223 crashed and collapsed against the rocks, pushing Tomoyo ever forward
rlm@2
224 along its path. As Sakura’s arms wrapped around her, she continued to
rlm@2
225 kiss her beautiful best friend, her heart crying out in joy as the
rlm@2
226 brunette returned her kiss eagerly. The two stayed that way for quite
rlm@2
227 some time, locked in what seemed to be a never ending cycle of kisses
rlm@2
228 that passed between the two. Tomoyo felt her masks melt away as they
rlm@2
229 continued their sweet dance. This was perfect, like a kiss from an
rlm@2
230 angel. And in a way, that was exactly what it was. A kiss from her
rlm@2
231 angel, Sakura.
rlm@2
232 “Hanyaa...” Sakura said quietly as the two finally halted their
rlm@2
233 continued kissing. It had been a gradual thing as it came to a halt,
rlm@2
234 just as it had built up gradually. Now that it was over, Sakura found
rlm@2
235 herself blushing immensely. She felt as if she had been lost and
rlm@2
236 alone in a dark and frightening forest and that a beautiful princess
rlm@2
237 had come along and rescued her. Her heart swelled as she looked into
rlm@2
238 the glittering stars that were Tomoyo’s eyes.
rlm@2
239 “Happy Valentine’s Day, Sakura-chan,” Tomoyo whispered happily, her
rlm@2
240 fingers still in Sakura’s hair. Closing her eyes, the two kissed
rlm@2
241 again, holding close. Even in the cool breeze, the pair felt warm,
rlm@2
242 wrapped in a blanket of the love they felt surrounding them. It
rlm@2
243 hadn’t been quite what either had expected, but throughout the years
rlm@2
244 Sakura would treasure it as her favorite Valentine’s gift.
