Big List O' rlm@68: Ideas rlm@68:

All the ideas I've had that I felt rlm@68: like writing down for the past ~ 8 years. Some of them rlm@68: could be practical inventions and are "just" waiting for rlm@68: that 95% perspiration to bring them to fruition, some rlm@68: are ideas for science fiction, and some are simple rlm@68: observations. rlm@68:

Aldehyde-Stabilized rlm@93: Cryopreservation (2015)

rlm@93:

rlm@93: A brain-banking technology that can preserve all of the rlm@93: synaptic connections in a whole mammalian brain for rlm@93: longer than a rlm@93: century. Published rlm@93: in Cryobiology and currently rlm@93: a major rlm@93: competitor for the Brain Preservation rlm@93: Prize. Mentioned in the rlm@93: New York Times and rlm@93: Scientific American.

rlm@95: CORTEX: a virtual world for sensate AI (2014)

rlm@68:

rlm@93: My MEng thesis at rlm@93: MIT, rlm@93: Recognizing Actions using Embodiment and rlm@96: Empathy. It won the 1st Place 2014 Charles and rlm@93: Jennifer Johnson Thesis Award for best EE/CS MEng rlm@93: thesis! CORTEX is an exploration of rlm@93: embodied cognition, the idea that our intelligence is rlm@93: deeply connected to our bodies and experience of the rlm@93: world. In the thesis, I teach a simulated worm how to rlm@93: recognize other worms performing various actions like rlm@93: wiggling and curling by giving it a sense of empathy: rlm@93: the worm imagines what it would feel like to be the rlm@93: other worm, and then recognizes the actions based on its rlm@93: own previous experience. All code and text for the rlm@93: thesis is freely licensed under the GPL.

It's the first hack of its rlm@96: kind, and it won tasvideos.com's rlm@96: rlm@96: 2012 Gameboy TAS of the year rlm@96: and 2012 rlm@96: Glitchy TAS of the year.
